I consider drawing an important foundation in my practice as an artist. Drawing is a conscious act of perception; it begins when I look at any object with focused attention, with or without the use of drawing materials. My drawing sometimes begs an analytical process in the attempt to understand the form of an object and its relationship with the space it occupies, or it could be expressive when the characteristic nature of the drawing material lends itself to experimental mark-making to express feeling responses.  Often, though, I apply both these approaches in the same drawing.
